Contai (also known as Kanthi) ((Bengali: কাঁথি) is a Subdivisional town in the District of East Midnapore, West Bengal, India. Contai was originally a part of Hijli kingdom, a tributary state of Orissa ruled by the Hindu King Gopinath Pattnayak.
